Family Photography Packages on Long Island Explained
If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I don’t make changes lightly.
For 2026, I restructured my family session packages. Not because something was “wrong.” Not because I was secretly holding anyone’s images hostage. And definitely not because I suddenly decided to do less.
I restructured them because families value different things.
And it’s time the packages reflect that.
Understanding Your Family Photography Options
You’ve probably seen it on social media. Photographers proudly announcing, “I don’t hold your images hostage.” “You get ALL your images.” “I don’t believe in making clients pay for their own memories.”
It sounds empowering. It sounds dramatic. It sounds like someone else is the villain.
Here’s the truth: no one was being held hostage here. When I delivered a curated gallery with hand-edited images, it wasn’t because I was hiding the rest from you. It was because each final image takes time. Real time. Skilled time. Intentional time. You weren’t paying for pixels. You were paying for refinement.
Now you have both options, because sometimes more images matter, and sometimes fewer, better ones do.
Option 1: Polished & Perfect
This is the “fewer images, fully refined” experience.
Every image you select is individually hand edited by me. Not batch processed. Not preset and done. I go into Photoshop and work through skin smoothing and blemish removal, teeth whitening, flyaway hair cleanup, clothing fixes and wrinkle reduction, minor (or major) body contouring, and background distraction removal.
If your arm looks bigger from the camera angle, I fix it. If your toddler scratched your face that morning, I fix it. If your jeans are cutting in weird, I fix it.
That level of detail takes time. It cannot be applied to 60–80 images without turning your session into a 12-hour editing marathon. That’s why additional fully retouched images aren’t included for free.
Because what you’re paying for isn’t extra files. You’re paying for labor and skill.
And here’s the honest part.
If I were the client, this is what I would choose.
I have insecurities. I know my angles. I know what I don’t like about myself. I don’t need 70 photos reminding me of the things I’m hyperaware of. I want 10 images where I look incredible. Images I actually feel confident printing, posting, and framing.
For me, more would not be better. Better would be better.
But that’s me.
Option 2: Real Life & Real Moments
This option includes all well captured images from your session with basic editing only.
That means color correction, exposure adjustments, white balance, cropping, and straightening. That’s it.
No skin retouching. No body contouring. Little to no background cleanup.
And I want to be very clear here: this is not lower quality photography. This is simply less post production refinement.
You are still getting my eye. My lighting. My posing. My direction. My experience. My equipment. My ability to wrangle toddlers and get Dad to crack a smile in seconds.
The quality of the capture does not change. The polish does.
For some families, that’s perfect.
Maybe you want every silly face your child made. Every messy hair moment. Every in between laugh. Maybe you don’t care about the tiny crease in your shirt or the way your arm looks in one angle. Maybe you just want the full story.
And if I had kids, I might feel that way too.
Because once you become a parent, the focus shifts. You might care less about your muffin top and more about the way your child looked at you in that moment.
More might matter more. And that’s valid.
Why This Change Matters
This restructure isn’t about charging more. It’s about transparency.
It’s about making it clear that editing has levels, time has value, and you deserve to choose what matters most to you.
Some people want heirloom portraits. Some people want the whole story.
Neither is wrong. But they are different. And now the pricing reflects that difference honestly.
