MATERNITY PREP GUIDE

If you are wondering what it's like to have a Maternity Session with Little Loves, you're in the right place! There are several things we can do together ahead of time to ensure an amazing, empowering session!

Things to Think About Before Your Session

  • Best time to schedule your maternity session is 30-36 weeks.  This is when you will have a nice little bump, but before you are too big to move comfortably.
  • Strongly consider having your hair and makeup done professionally.  If you do your own makeup, please make sure that it matches your natural skin tone.  Don’t put too much makeup on to cover up a blemish.  It is normally easier to correct a blemish in editing than to correct too much makeup.
  • Pay close attention to your nails.  Many of the photographs will focus on your hands.  Consider treating yourself to a manicure and pedicure, or convince your partner to help spruce up your fingers and toes so that they look picture perfect! I recommend neutral colors so that your nails will not clash with your outfit choices, and so that they do not become the focus. Avoid hot pinks, bold reds, blues, greens, etc.
  • Consider how you feel about varying levels of undress in your photographs, and the final look that you want in your pictures.  Please don’t hesitate to tell me if you are not comfortable in a certain pose or with a certain body part uncovered.

Things to Bring to Your Session:

Clothing for Indoor Studio Session

We may not use many of these items, but it's always good to have plenty of options, so don't stress if you don't have some of these!

  • **strapless bra - black and/or nude (nude is preferred, both is great)**
  • seamless panties - black and/or nude (nude is preferred, both is great)
  • pretty bra and panties that make you feel sexy
  • pre-pregnancy jeans - they do not need to button :)
  • men’s button down shirt
  • high heel shoes
  • tight fitting tank top
  • Dad can wear dark jeans/khakis and a coordinating shirt. It does not have to match your outfit, but should be a coordinating color. If he's comfortable going shirtless, that is always a great look!
  • If older siblings are coming, they should coordinate with mom and dad.  Male siblings should be in dark jeans/khakis and a coordinating shirt, and females can be in dark jeans and shirts, or dresses to match mom or cute tutus, etc.

Things to Bring to Your Session:

Clothing for Outdoor Session

  • strapless bra - nude
  • underwear that is easy to remove, as I often ask that you wear no underwear to avoid lines in the gowns.
  • no pregnancy spanx or similar. I will be sure to smooth you out in editing!
  • flip flops or sandals that can easily be kicked off.
  • Dad can wear dark jeans or khakis and a coordinating shirt. It does not have to match your outfit, but should be a coordinating color.
  • If older siblings are coming, they should coordinate with mom and dad. Male siblings should be in dark jeans/khakis and a coordinating shirt, and females can be in dark jeans and shirts, or dresses to match mom or cute tutus, etc.

I have several gowns/outfits to choose from. You can visit my client closet at https://www.littlelovesphotographyny.com/client-closet to see what is available. If you are looking for something specific that I do not have, please don't hesitate to reach out, I am always looking to add more pieces to my collection! You are also welcome to bring your own outfit(s) if you prefer, but please be sure to try them on before the session. Many Amazon maternity gowns are very cheap knockoffs of the gowns I purchase from specific photographer designers, and they do not photograph or fit well.

I can not wait to get you in the studio to create some real magic! If you have any other questions, please reach out. My main goal is to make you feel like a supermodel!
